Junior Lighthouse Keeper Program

The Junior Ranger Program traditionally is sponsored by most of the national parks throughout the country. Typically these are a one day program that can be completed at specific parks, to earn a badge or patch. The 6-week structure of the Lighthouse Program has led us to differentiate the program from the NPS Junior Ranger Program by changing the names to The Assistant Lighthouse Keeper Program and The Junior Lighthouse Keeper Program.
Assistant Lighthouse Keepers is designed for children ages 7 through 10 year of age. The group will meet on the terrace of the lighthouse Wednesday mornings from 10AM until Noon, July 11 through August 15, 2007.
Junior Lighthouse Keepers will be offered on Tuesdays for children in Junior High by September 2007. This group will meet at the lighthouse on Tuesday mornings from 10AM until noon July 10 through August 15, 2006, with the exception of August 2 and August 16 when both groups will meet together on Wednesdays (see enclosed schedule). Having the older children meet in a smaller group allows us to present more challenging and in depth programs.
The combined groups will meet at the lighthouse on Wednesday, August 8 for a trip along Fire Island on the Sayville Ferry from The Fire Island Lighthouse to Sailors Haven. After touring the Sunken Forest we will return to Lighthouse. There will be more information as the trip gets closer, however, in order to arrange for the ferry I will need to know at registration how many children and parents are planning to attend this trip. There is no charge for children enrolled in the Lighthouse Keeper Program, however we must charge any parents $10 per person and siblings $6 per person.
The closing program will be a combined event on Wednesday, August 15, 2007. As always this will be the annual barbeque.
Please return the completed application, along with your payment of $75(make checks payable to FILPS). Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If your child wants to be placed in a group with a specific child or group of children, this can only be accommodated if ALL applications are submitted in the same envelope. Your cancelled check will be your acknowledgement of acceptance, otherwise your check will be returned to you.
